My guess is that it was due to it being from Lorne’s 5-year break is the reason NBC did not air his episode from here when Carlin passed.

Which is sad because, well for one the first episode has been aired, and seen in packages quite often in the nearly 50 years since its first airing. And this shows a more integrated, and acting Carlin as opposed to just going on stage, coked out of his mind, and doing his standup material that first night.

Carlin was so much better as host the second time.

Well, in the context of what was going on all year, Larry melting down and quitting makes a lot more sense.

Though he should NOT have listened to his better angels, and Kenny Kramer, and returned that Monday like nothing had happened. Even if it made for a nice George storyline on Seinfeld.

The way he retells the story it always sounds like it’s a more normal year in the writer’s room (so what your sketch didn’t get on, you’re still working for the show) and not the way it actually was that year!
