Congrats on 50 years! I discovered your podcast as I was doing my own watch through hopped on board around season 8, riding all the way to season 38, where I was much more familiar with the show. We’ve had a few major differences in opinions (Marilyn Susan Miller, Dunn, Gasteyer, and Strong, who I think all play similar roles on the show that we will just never agree on), but I feel you all are always very fair and evenhanded, and we agree on many more things that require this type of watch through to appreciate (the underrating of Lovitz and Schneider by more casual/reactive fans, for example). All in all though, your biggest revelation was in this episode, when you revealed that the two of you had never met!
Now that you guys have done all 50 years I have a suggestion of what we need from you. Alas my Executive Producer subscription ran out a few months ago.
So here is my idea. I need what Jonah Godberg calls a half-baked ideas podcast. The Ringer fantasy football show does a yearly “purge” podcast, same idea. You guys have lots of opinions about SNL, you need to be able to blurt out your ideas without having to 100% believe in them. Is John Lovitz a top 10 cast member? Does having a great cast member make the show worse (Kate McKinnon)? Is Kevin Nealon the most average cast member in history?
The best part of this show is you can’t be held accountable for your opinions because that’s the rules.
