Unless I missed something in there, Buddy Young, Jr. never appeared on the show!? Mr. Saturday Night was never on Saturday Night Live!?

Well yet anyway, though not to give Billy and Lorne any ideas now that Billy doesn’t need the makeup to do the character ;)

He did appear a couple times as a Saturday Night News guest. He got more than 6 minutes on E13 and had a standalone commerical earlier in the season, too. I don't think either of us thought it was a real highlight (nor could have predicted a future movie!).

Yeah like I said below I could have sworn the short Crystal did as mid-1980s Buddy Young Jr that probably gave him the impetus to do the movie was in here. Oh well.

You should give the movie 2 things, David Paymer got a Supporting Actor Nominations at the Oscars, and gave Crystal a fun bit to shoehorn at the end of his “Best Pictures” song “I wanted to hear how it would have sounded!”

Oh, never mind, found the character’s appearance list on the SNL Archives...Hmmm guess I Mandela’ed the older “current day” Buddy from the short film Crystal did with IIRC Rob Reiner as airing on the show, which was the basis of the eventual movie.
