'Wasn't That Special' Season 28 Clips Package
As always, for those who have signed up for the podcast at the Executive Producer level, we send out notable video and newspaper clips that aided us in preparing for the episode. Below are some of the Saturday Night Live sketches and media clips we reference throughout the episode, to enhance the listening process.
Please help keep the podcast advertisement-free and upgrade to the Executive Producer level, which will keep these emails coming in the future!
(Although if you want to support us at a lower level and want to just hear the shows, you can do that, too!)
Here are some of the materials we discuss throughout the Season Twenty-Eight episode:
Mom Jeans
A classic commercial, and the best of the season.
Courtroom Bullhorn
One of the first instances where you could see Will Forte had a different comedy gear than other recent cast additions. He’s filling in some of the weirdness that left when Will Ferrell bolted.
Protest
The only really strong sketch of the Matthew McConaughey episode. Even more impressive because it was so topical at the time, as anti-war protests popped up all over the country.
Life Raft Election
This probably killed at read-through. Walken is good, as always.
Colonel Angus
Entirely a writer’s sketch. You know 15 seconds in where it’s going.
Thomas Jefferson Meets Sally Hemings
Not a great Robert DeNiro episode, but this one has some good lines.
“When do you get off work?”
“Never.”
Game Night
A great performance by Rachel Dratch and one of the prime examples of why she was the season’s most valuable cast member.
Pranksters
The Box
More Forte silliness.
The Falconer: The Restaurant
And even more Forte weirdness. He had a hand in most of the season’s best sketches.
King Kong: The Director’s Cut
This one divided the podcast hosts. Christian thought it was crude, while Scot appreciated it.
Club Traxx
And, as always, we don’t just give you the good sketches. There are plenty of terrible ones, such as this one, which they for some reason decided should be a recurring bit.
With Will Ferrell gone, this season added two more cast members you have likely heard of:
During this season, a book by James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales was released that investigated the behind-the-scenes history of SNL. (And which we cite on the podcast often.) But reviews for “Live From New York” weren’t necessarily that glowing:
A local Oregon newspaper profiled co-head writer Dennis McNicholas:
The Al Gore-hosted episode early in the season raised some eyebrows in the national media:
Chris Parnell discussed why he was fired from SNL…and then re-hired a season later:
Finally, it goes without saying, but…always go to the club with Tracy Morgan.
