We have been busy in the past week, spreading word of the podcast around the globe. On Saturday, Christian penned a column for MSNBC examining the complicated political history of SNL - while conservatives have typically loathed the show for its “bias” and progressives have cheered it for reflecting their ideals, the actual history of the show is far more nuanced and diverse.

Also, Christian wrote a piece for Discourse magazine about how the tone of the jokes has changed in the past decade. For decades, SNL gleefully touched on third-rail topics, but suddenly, as America became both more online and more socially conscious, that began to change.

Again, thank you to all of you who have joined us over the past two years. And for those looking to unlock all of our full episodes, now is the time to join us as a paid subscriber!
See everyone tonight!
The MSNBC piece was an interesting look at the larger context of SNL’s political satire. I think in the first few decades, there were arguments the show went after both parties. But that changed in recent years, especially considering how SNL laid off Biden until after he was off the ballot, avoiding the masterful Dana Carvey impression until it wouldn’t hurt the Democratic ticket: https://open.substack.com/pub/ryanclarkself/p/why-did-snl-pull-its-punches-on-biden?r=7y31d&utm_medium=ios
