A Few Quick Notes from Management
If you are receiving this email, it means you are a subscriber to “Wasn’t That Special,” the best SNL podcast that ever was or ever will be. (Many people are saying it.)
We, of course, wanted to thank you for subscribing - we are getting a ton of positive feedback and it has given us the chance to meet all sorts of new people who enjoy what we do (and reconnect with some old friends).
Naturally, we want to continue to boost our listenership (and readership, too), so we are currently running a free giveaway contest. For people who join as a free subscriber between now and Friday, we will hold a random drawing to win a FREE one-year subscription to the podcast.
That means, if you are already subscribed, sadly, you are not eligible. (You can re-subscribe using a burner email address, I suppose, in order to get your name in the hat.) But mostly, we want you to reach out to your best friends (or if you hate the podcast, your worst enemies) and get them to sign up for a free account. We are counting on our current subscribers to spread the word - the more you do that, the more we can dedicate to cranking out more content.
So go ahead and send them here:
ALSO:
We have gotten some questions from paid subscribers who wonder if they can listen to the full podcast on Apple Podcasts or some other podcast service. The answer is yes!
When you go to the podcast on the WTS website, you see this:
See that box on the lower right that says “Listen on?” Click it and you’ll see this drop-down menu:
If you “Copy link,” it will give you your personalized RSS link that you can then drop in to Apple Podcasts or whatever other podcast program you are using. That will then deliver the podcast directly to your device when they go up, rather than forcing you to listen to it on the webpage or in the Substack app.
For more info on how to add a personalized RSS feed to Apple Podcasts, go here.
ALSO:
Substack allows us to start chat threads that our subscribers can then use to talk to one another - which we highly encourage! If you are an Executive Producer-level subscriber, you can start your own threads. But we will start the occasional thread ourselves, so feel free to jump in and comment - we want you all to be friends with each other.
ALSO:
If you are an Executive Producer-level subscriber, we have started sending emails ahead of each recording session to ask you for guidance and requests. If there are particular sketches you want to hear discussed or questions you wish to have answered or themes you wish we would talk about, please let us know! We are here to serve our best-friends-in-the-whole-wide-world, our Executive Producers.
ALSO:
The Hillsdale Collegian ran a story about us - how the podcast got started, what we expect people to learn from it, etc. It should be noted that Christian is the cover photo, which, much like Chevy Chase’s Newsweek cover appearance in 1976, has caused much dissention among the cast.
You can read it here.
FINALLY:
As Christian has noted on the podcast, we are now in the place where if you want to watch along with us on Peacock, you aren’t going to see a lot of the sketches we discuss. They have been cut from the episodes on Peacock due to music rights issues, so there are a lot of sketches missing.
We have had a few people ask where we got the full episodes that we break down on the show. It’s kind of a gray area of internet etiquette, so we aren’t sure we should be advertising where they are all housed. Let’s just say, if you’re looking for a specific episode, Google is your friend.
